About
A sole entrepreneur now, built to grow into a specialist team.
Why "Hooknot"? In software, a "hook" is how systems safely speak to each other. A "knot" is how you securely tie things together. HND (Hooknot Digital) is about untangling messy learning systems and building secure, reliable connections that hold fast.
Hooknot Digital is intentionally founder-led. You work directly with Rohin for planning and execution, while the studio is structured to bring in specialist developers and designers as your project scales.
Rohin Grover is the founder of Hooknot Digital, a founder-led LMS studio for Moodle, IOMAD, plugin development and platform support. His core experience comes from years of hands-on Moodle administration: setup, daily management, migration, course building, custom reports and platform troubleshooting.

What is Hooknot Digital?
Hooknot Digital is a one-person Moodle and IOMAD consultancy founded and run by Rohin Grover. It is based in India and works remotely with organisations in India, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. The work covers Moodle installation and configuration, upgrades, migrations, IOMAD multi-tenancy, custom SQL reporting, WordPress and Moodle integration, and rescuing sites that have broken. There is no agency team behind it, and it is not a Moodle Partner.
Who is Rohin Grover?
Rohin Grover is the founder and sole operator of Hooknot Digital. He has more than seven years of hands-on Moodle experience across installation, administration, configuration, course building, troubleshooting, custom SQL reporting, migrations and upgrades, and he works with IOMAD for multi-tenant Moodle. The project record described publicly is four: a Moodle upgrade to the 3.11 line, a migration from MoodleCloud to a self-managed AWS server, a WordPress and Moodle integration with single sign-on, and a Moodle training website built with the Edumy theme for an astrology and numerology academy.
Which Moodle versions are supported in 2026?
Moodle 4.5 LTS, 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 were all receiving some level of support in August 2026. Moodle 4.5 left general support on 6 October 2025 but keeps security fixes until 4 October 2027. Moodle 5.0 loses security support on 5 October 2026, and general bug fixing for 5.1 ends the same day. Moodle 5.2, released on 20 April 2026, has general support until 19 April 2027 and security support until 4 October 2027. The next long-term support release, Moodle 5.3, has a code freeze date of 31 August 2026 and a scheduled release date of 5 October 2026, with general support to 4 October 2027 and security support to 1 October 2029.
Can I upgrade from Moodle 3.11 straight to Moodle 5.2?
No. Moodle publishes a direct-upgrade floor for each release: 5.1 accepts 4.2.3 or later, 5.2 accepts 4.4 or later, and the 5.3 LTS accepts 4.5 or later. A 3.11 site sits below all three floors, so it needs at least one intermediate release before it can reach the 5.x line. Which intermediate release depends on where in 3.11 you are, because Moodle 4.2 itself only accepts 3.11.8 or above: a site at 3.11.8 or later can go to 4.2.3 and then to 5.1, while a site on 3.11.0 to 3.11.7 has to take a 3.11 point release first. Reaching 5.2 or 5.3 takes a further hop again, so the route to 5.3 from 3.11 runs 4.2.3, then 4.5, then 5.3. Each hop carries its own PHP and database minimum, so the underlying server usually has to change part-way through the sequence rather than once at the start.
What changed in the Moodle 5.1 folder structure?
Moodle 5.1 moved web-accessible code, including the core libraries, into a new public directory. The web server document root must now point at that folder, for example /var/www/moodle/public, and the code that used to sit at lib/ is now at public/lib/. What still matters to an administrator at the installation root is admin/cli, config-dist.php, your own config.php, and a thin lib/ stub containing only the Behat extension, components.json, plugins.json and setup.php. There is a public/config.php, but it is only a loader for the real file one level up. Third-party plugins previously sitting at local/yourplugin or mod/yourplugin have to move under public/local/ and public/mod/. Skipping either step produces 404s, or a site that loads with functionality missing.
Does Hooknot Digital work with IOMAD?
Yes. IOMAD is the main route to real multi-tenancy on Moodle, using companies as tenants, nested departments, parent and child company structures, delegated company and department managers, and licences that control course access. Since IOMAD 4.1 there has been an IOMAD build for every Moodle release, but each one lands after its Moodle counterpart. IOMAD's stated target is three months, and the published record has run from three to five: IOMAD 4.5 LTS in February 2025, four months after Moodle 4.5; IOMAD 5.0 in July 2025, three months after Moodle 5.0; IOMAD 5.1 in March 2026, five months after Moodle 5.1. Moodle 5.2 shipped in April 2026 and still had no IOMAD equivalent in August 2026. That lag shapes your upgrade calendar.
Are the Hooknot Digital Moodle plugins available to buy?
Not yet. Six plugins are in development and none has been released: Engagement Mailer, Flexi Enrol Dates, Admin Insights Dashboard, Learner Timeline Dashboard, Moodle LEMP Auto-Installer and Moodle Completion Doctor. There is nothing to download or purchase, and no release date is being promised. If one of them describes a problem you have right now, it can be scoped as custom plugin work instead.
Where is Hooknot Digital based and which countries does it serve?
Hooknot Digital is based in India and works entirely remotely. Clients have been in India, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. Work is done through your own hosting and Moodle access rather than on-site, so time zone matters more than location, and maintenance windows are agreed in advance to suit your learner base. First contact is usually a free thirty-minute call.
